Pomegranate is a fruit in a league of its own that can boast of its glorious past. In the botanical world, it is called Punica granatum. It is actually a shrub that bears red fruit. It originates from the Punicoideae family, Lythraceae, and subfamily, and it is an ancient fruit that is native to Iran.

Unique Origin Story

Its roots stretch to northern India from Iran. It has been grown in the Mediterranean since ancient times. Cultivation and Harvesting

Generally, it grows between 5.5 to 7 meters. The growing season varies, as it is from March to May in the southern hemisphere, but from September to February in the northern hemisphere. Pomegranates are cultivated in tropical areas between July and August, and subtropical regions from February to March. After a year, the trees produce fruit.

The pH should be approx 6.5 to 8 when cultivated in loose soil. To render it fertile, manure and compost are applied to the soil. Seedlings are planted in holes created by a row of trees that are ready. The seedlings should be three months old. Pomegranates are shed naturally in the 1st year. Before harvesting, it is important to check the seed quality for its quality. Pomegranates are most often hand-picked and plucked. 130 days after the tree begins bearing fruits, they are ready to be collected.
